I have been adjusting children for over 15 years now. The quickest and easiest fix has always been in the case of recurrent ear infections. Once you start adjusting one of these children on a regular basis and instruct the parent on some natural food remedies, it is quite easy to erradicate the recurrent ear infections. The truth is that once you start adjusting the child, the immune system is brought to life and most recurrent illness are easily eliminated. Enjoy the case study below.

Improvements in Hearing, Speech, Development, and Behavior Following Chiropractic in a 4 Year Old Male
Ryan Pilsner, D.C. & Megan Richardson, D.C.
Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2011 ~ Issue 1 ~ Pages 14-22 Abstract
Objective: To review improvement in a child with otitis media, adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion, and hearing loss associated with speech difficulties, developmental delay, and behavioral concerns undergoing chiropractic care.
Clinical Features: A 4 year-old male presented with complaints of otitis media with effusion, adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion, bilateral hearing loss, speech difficulties, developmental delay, and behavioral concerns. Vertebral subluxations were found at upper cervical and upper thoracic vertebral levels.
Intervention and Outcomes: After 11 chiropractic adjustments including instrument and diversified techniques patient’s re-evaluation with ENT physician revealed resolution of otitis media with effusion, adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion, hearing loss and improvement of speech, development, and behavior. Patient had improved intervertebral motion in the upper cervical and upper thoracic spine.
Conclusions: This case report presents supporting evidence that chiropractic adjustments may improve immune system functioning, thus relieving otitis media, adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion and their subsequent effects. More research is recommended to support the findings presented in this paper and to examine the role vertebral subluxation has on immune function.
The above words probably caught the attention of a lot of you. If you are experiencing these problems, chiropractic can help. In this case, restoring proper kinesiological and neurological function by reducing vertebral subluxation(spinal misalignment) restored proper afferent stimulation of the autonomic nervous system resulting in a reduction of symptoms. Many times I find that it is a combination of improper cervical (neck) structure as well as nutritional deficencies. If anyone in your family or friendly circle is experiencing these problems, i would be happy to have a look at them. Please read the short abstract below. Read in good health, Dr. Kim Maziarz . Improvement in a Child with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Constipation, and Deformational Plagiocephaly Undergoing Chiropractic Care Robin Swaminathan, D.C. Bio & Laura Hanson, D.C., D.I.C.C.P. Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2011 ~ Issue 1 ~ Pages 9-13 Abstract Objective: The chiropractic management of an infant with of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), constipation and deformational plagiocephaly is described. Clinical Features: A 5-month-old female presented for care with complaints of GERD since birth and constipation since she was 4-6 weeks old. At the time of initial presentation medication was not affecting frequency or amount of reflux symptoms. Bilateral flattening of the occiput was noted indicating deformational plagiocephaly. Intervention and Outcomes: The patient was seen 19 times over approximately 6 months for chiropractic evaluation and management. Chiropractic adjustments included atlas, T2, L4, sacrum and the cranial vault. At the time of a 6-month care reassessment, the patient had ceased taking anti-reflux medication and was regularly having 1 to 2 bowel movements per day. The patient’s plagiocephaly was improved with only slight leveling of the occiput noted. Conclusions: In this case, restoring proper kinesiological and neurological function by reducing vertebral subluxation restored proper afferent stimulation of the autonomic nervous system resulting in a concomitant reduction in subluxation findings, deformational plagiocephaly and visceral dysfunction. It has long been proven that a chiropractic adjustment boosts immune function and helps regulation of the nervous system. For many years I have worked with children and seen first hand the miracle of a child with continuous illness, asthma or ear infections; start chiropractic treatment and end up healthy and happy and off medications. It is wonderful to work in a profession that gives power to the innate intelegence of the individual, actually giving the power to the individual. It is unfortunate that over the years we have enviornmental destroyed our land and food, all in the name of ease and increased profits. In doing so, we are also destroying ourselves, as can be seen by the increase in infertility and children with health challenges. Please read the study below and realize that this translates to all illness. When the nervous system functions without pressure or blockage, it truly is self healing. Given time and proper treatment, the body will heal. Case Study Improvement in a Child with Pervasive Developmental Disorder Undergoing Chiropractic Care Morgan Handt, D.C. Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2011 ~ Issue 1 ~ Pages 5-8 Abstract Objective: The purpose of this paper is to report on the outcomes of a three year-old boy diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) undergoing chiropractic care. Clinical Features: A three year old boy, who was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder by a developmental pediatrician. The child had communication problems, apraxia, and speech delay. Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care over the course of 5 months. The care consisted of Diversified technique adjustments to the upper cervical and sacral regions, balancing exercises, kinesiotaping of bilateral foot overpronation, and diet modification. The outcomes were measured by re-assessments, parental evaluation and health care provider and teacher reports. The child began making friends, became more interactive, less defiant and was reported to be an overall happier child following the introduction of chiropractic care. Conclusions: Following the introduction of chiropractic care and lifestyle changes this child experienced an improvement in his quality of life. Further research into the role of chiropractic and lifestyle changes is called for in this population of children. I have seen many children in my 14 years of practice have symptoms of night time bed wetting have resolution of the condition once they have been under chiropractic care. The problem tends to be a functional one, meaning pressure on the nervous system causing the body to work improperly. Once the body is balanced, pressure is removed from the area and begins to work properly. Yours in health, Dr. Kim Carlucci

Objective:To describe successful chiropractic care of a pediatric patient with nocturnal enuresis. Clinical Features: A nine year old boy with nocturnal enuresis was presented for chiropractic care after unsuccessful medical approaches. Visual examination revealed several postural abnormalities. Motion palpation revealed vertebral subluxations in the cervical and lumbosacral spine regions.
Interventions and Outcomes:The patient was cared for with contact specific, high velocity, low-amplitude type thrust to sites of spinal subluxations. Proper dietary modifications were implemented as indicated from the patient’s 7-day dietary intake form. By the seventh visit, it was reported that the patient had been enuresis free for two weeks which continued to be the case at a four month follow up; which deemed resolution of nocturnal enuresis.
Conclusion:The case of a nine year old male with past history of nocturnal enuresis is presented. Dramatic improvement is noted following the introduction of chiropractic care concomitant with a reduction in vertebral subluxation. Additional research on the benefits of chiropractic care and nocturnal enuresis is warranted.
Hi everyone, this is very important for all of you to read and get educated on. It is also very important to realize that not all supplements are created equal and it is best to get nutrients in the whole food form by reducing processed food intake and eating more whole foods and vegetables. When buying supplements you need to look for good companies that sell whole food nutrients. I happen to like Standard Process and Designs for Health. Below is the controversy of folic acid and cancer, and all the current research in a nice short note by Dr. Kingsley. Enjoy the read and keep being educated. Yours in health, Dr. Kimberly Maziarz Carlucci The Folic Acid Controversy Revisited Gregory M. Kingsbury, D.C. Optimal Health Consultant Designs for Health www.designsforhealth.com 908-419-7510 Folic Acid vs. Folate: Part I Folic Acid: The Story Behind Its Health Risks The April issue of Prevention magazine contained an article entitled Is Your Breakfast Giving You Cancer?, which has generated significant media and public concern regarding folic acid. The Prevention magazine article presents research that suggests that synthetic folic acid fortification of white flour, rice, breakfast cereals, nutrition bars, beverages, most multi-vitamins and many other nutritional supplements, has led to significant increases in cancer, particularly colon, prostate, and lung cancer. "The more we learn about folic acid, the more it's clear that giving it to everyone has very real risks," says folic acid researcher David Smith, PhD, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Oxford in England, as quoted in the Prevention magazine article. View the article through this link: www.Prevention.com... Although folic acid has been associated with many health benefits, there are a number of research studies suggesting potential health risks of high intake of folic acid from fortified foods and dietary supplements. Folate vs. Folic Acid: What is the difference? The terms "folate" and "folic acid" are often used interchangeably but they are not one and the same. Folates are members of the B vitamin family (referring to various tetrahydrofolate derivatives) naturally occurring in foods, mainly leafy green vegetables. Folic acid, on the other hand, is a fully oxidized, synthetic compound (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), used in dietary supplements and in food fortification. The important difference to note is that folic acid does not occur naturally. Folate and Human Health What is the role of folate? Folate is necessary during rapid cell division and growth. In fact, pregnancy is known to actually double the need of dietary folates. Folate deficiency has been reported to be the most common vitamin deficiency in the US, and is associated with such conditions as: - Anemia
- Incidence and recurrence of Neural Tube Defects (serious birth defects of the spinal cord and the brain which arise during the early development of the embryo, most common being spina bifida)
- Increased risk of certain cancers
- Elevated Homocysteine, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke and many other health conditions
Potential Causes of a Folate Deficiency - Inadequate dietary intake
- Increased requirement, as in pregnancy and lactation
- Malabsorption
- Altered hepatic (liver) metabolism
- Increased elimination of folate
Neural Tube Defects (NTDs): How Folic Acid Fortification All Began The overwhelming evidence for the protective effect of folic acid supplementation before conception and during early pregnancy on the development of NTDs led to the mandatory folic acid fortification in the United States and Canada. Food fortification rather than supplementation was deemed necessary because NTDs could occur during early pregnancy, before a woman knows she is pregnant. And so the fortification of folic acid began. The Downside of Folic Acid Fortification Incidences of spina bifida and cardiovascular events have been significantly reduced because of folic acid fortification. However, studies have emerged which raised concern on the safety of chronic intake of high levels of folic acid from fortified foods, beverages and dietary supplements. It has been shown that many ready-to-eat foods are actually over-fortified with folic acid and that the projected daily folic acid intake from fortified food has been greatly exceeded. The risk of higher than desired folic acid intake is compounded by concerns over the appearance of unmetabolized (unaltered) folic acid in the blood circulatory system. It has been demonstrated that even a modest intake of less than 400 micrograms per day of folic acid from fortified foods or supplements leads to the appearance of umetabolized folic acid in the bloodstream. The health outcomes of chronic exposure to unmetabolized folic acid have not been evaluated and it is recommended that long term studies on the safety of folic acid have to be conducted. There are several studies that seem to indicate potential risk of folic acid intake. It is estimated that this practice of synthetic folic acid fortification has resulted in 15,000 additional cancers per year in the US alone. One study had shown an apparent increase in the incidence of colorectal cancer after the mandatory fortification of folic acid in both the US and Canada. Several papers commented that the observed trend of higher incidence of colorectal cancer following folic acid fortification should not be surprising since it has been known after synthesized folic acid had became available in the 1940s that folic acid enhances the growth of pre-existing cancers and tumors. There is a growing body of evidence that seems to suggest the dual role of folates in carcinogenesis. High folate status prevents cancer development in the absence of preneoplastic lesions (abnormal tissue) but folic acid supplementation promotes the growth and development of existing preneoplastic lesions. At present, there are no published studies showing that supplementation with nature-identical folates such as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and 5-formyltetrahydrofolate enhances the progression of pre-existing neoplasms. What is the solution? Please keep reading as I will address the use of supplemental natural folates in the conclusion of our two-part series on Folic Acid vs. Folate. References Ulrich CM, Potter JD. Folate fortification: enough already? Am J Clin Nutr. 2003 Jan;77(1):8-9. Brody T. Nutritional biochemistry. San Diego: Academic Press 1999. Folic Acid vs. Folates: Part II The Story of Natural Folates As we saw in Part I of the Folic Acid vs. Folate Story, there is a vast difference between these two nutrients. Folate is naturally found in food, and carries with it no known downside. Folic acid, on the other hand, a synthesized compound, carries with it potential serious health risks. As folic acid researcher David Smith, PhD, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Oxford in England, said in the Prevention magazine article which triggered public concern over this B vitamin, "Unlike folate, folic acid isn't found in nature, so we don't know the effect of the excess." At Designs for Health we fully understand and appreciate the critical roles in regard to health that folates play, including facilitating proper methylation for optimal genetic expression, and lowering the risk of neural tube defects and cardiovascular disease, both associated with elevated homocysteine levels. We, thus, encourage the addition of folate-containing foods as part of a healthy diet. Important sources of folate - leafy green vegetables
- fruits
- legumes
- liver
- eggs
- dairy products
- orange juice
However, it is often difficult to obtain therapeutic amounts of many nutrients strictly through the diet, which is where supplementation steps in. With the discovery of potential health issues related to synthetic folic acid, the supplement industry became faced with a new challenge. Is there a way to gain benefit from folates without contributing to cancer risk and incidence? The answer is Yes! Designs for Health takes its "Science first" commitment very seriously. Clear evidence of this commitment is the fact that in our entire product line of folate-containing products we only use NatureFolate™, a blend of natural folates including those found in spinach. Putting science first, we made the decision to use NatureFolate™ even though the price of folic acid is approximately $35 per kilo while the natural isomer of 5-MTHF used in NatureFolate™ costs in excess of $15,000 per kilo! The folate forms found in NatureFolate™ are fully reduced tetrahydrofolates, the key here being that do not require liver enzymes to metabolize them into active folate. These are safe, natural forms which are quickly and easily utilized by the body. NatureFolate™ provides the proven benefits of optimal folate supplementation without the risks. DFH replaced folic acid with NatureFolate™ not only in our featured folate products, but in all DFH products, such as our multivitamins, including our prenatal vitamin, as well as our formulary blends. Simply put, it is safer to consume natural folates than to consume folic acid long-term. Once again, nature knows best. Yours for Better Health Naturally, Greg Kingsbury, D.C. Hi everyone! Ear infections are the #1 reason that children are initially brought into a chiropractic office. I bet you did not know that! Ear infections are a symptom of an underlying cause: food allergies, misalignments of the vertebrae that put pressure on the nerves - decreasing the effectiveness of the body at fighting illness and drainage of the tubes in the ears, other conditions such as candidaisis, which is discussed in the case study below. Chiropractic education is focused on correcting underlying nutritional and biomechanical causes and is extremely effective for both ear infections and candidiasis. Candida itself is a very extremely common problem in both men and women, which is caused by a high sugar and highly processed diet. It can also be passed from family member to family member and especially from mother to infant. If left untreated, candida leads to malabsorption issues, increased allergies, fatigue, depression, irritability, sleep disorders, joint aches, skin conditions, bloating, cramping, dry eyes and some paresthesias, as well as other symptoms. In my office, I use a combination of chiropractic adustments in order to open the nervous system, correct balance of the body and improve immune and overall function of the body. In addition, I have added nutritional and blood testing, supplementation, which zeros in on nutritional/hormonal imbalances and then we feed the body what it needs for health. Enjoy the case study below, pass it on to a friend in need, and above all, keep learning.

Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2010 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 122 -129 Abstract Objective: To describe the use of Applied Kinesiology (AK) in the management of a pre-adolescent female with candidiasis, recurrent ear infections, and severe postural imbalances that occurred when these infections were present.Clinical Features: This six-year-old patient had painful earaches on a monthly basis since the age of 4-months. She had undergone antibiotic treatment 25 times in her life, suffered two urinary tract infections, and displayed oral thrush. Exposure to water and cold air consistently produced an ear infection according to her parents. Intervention & Outcome: AK methods were utilized to diagnose and treat this patient with rapid resolution of her candidiasis, ear pain in cold air and water, and ear infections. She has been symptom-free for 2 years since her first 4 AK treatments over a three-month period. Conclusion: In this case a multi-modal chiropractic system for the evaluation of muscle-joint subluxations were useful for the discovery of a number of complex causative factors underlying this patient’s digestive and immune system compromise, as well as her recurring infections and earaches. Key Words: Candidiasis, chiropractic, vertebral subluxation, Applied Kinesiology, ear infections

Nicholas SC Marini, B.S., D.C. Bio & Stephen C Marini, M.S., D.C., PhD Bio Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2010 ~ Issue 3 ~ Pages 107 -115 Abstract Objective: To describe and discuss the objective and subjective changes in a 6 year old male child following chiropractic care over a period of 16 weeks who was originally diagnosed with Autism.Clinical Features: A 6 year old boy presents with reduced social interaction, altered behavioral patterns, language deficits, and learning difficulties. The child was previously diagnosed with Autism by a neurologist after brain pathology was ruled out. The child was up to date with all vaccinations per the recommended medical schedule.Interventions and Outcomes: Objective data, such as static palpation, motion palpation, and leg checks were used to determine the presence of vertebral subluxations in the child. The Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) was also used. A chiropractic adjustment schedule along with dietary and supplementation recommendations were advised at the initial visit. Diversified, Thompson Drop Assisted techniques, and trigger point therapies were used to reduce the subluxations that were found. Over the 16 week period, where adjustments were given regularly, a reduction in vertebral subluxation patterns and an improved ATEC score were noted. Improvements in learning abilities, social interactions, language skills, and behavioral patterns were also noted. Conclusion: In this case, a possible link between chiropractic care and the reduction of autistic signs and symptomatology is indicated due to the improvements in subjective and objective findings. Studies of a similar nature have been conducted previously with similar outcomes. However, more research needs to be conducted in order to evaluate the precise connection between vertebral subluxation, chiropractic care, Autism, and other Autistic-like Disorders.
